Keep it VERY stupid SIMPLE!
Stop planning the perfect first date for that absolutely fantastic looking thumbnail staring back at you from the confines of your computer screen. Do you know how many nightmarishly awkward first dates came about because you OVER PLANNED around someone who looked FAR more appealing (and interesting) in pixels...than they did in real life? Trust me - many..:-) Keep it as basic as possible, coffee is ideal. No muss, no fuss and if you hit it off, there is always date number 2..;-)
Hang UP the phone, Honey!
Please...whatever you do, do NOT spend oceans of time with the target of your online affections on the phone, before you meet. This is the biggest lesson I have learned from 5 years of hardcore online blind dating....people are MUCH different on the phone, than in real life. There is NOTHING worse than falling in love with someone on the phone....his voice, his laugh, his wonderful pauses...ONLY to find he has nothing to say in person. This has happened to me FAR more than I'd like to admit - and it cuts across both men and women alike. Keep your phone calls fun, interesting and SHORT,...I promise - hitting it off one on one is a much better way to go, and if you DON'T...there isn't a huge helping of heartbreak to swallow!
